Nutritional Secondary Hyperparathyroidism (NSH and Big Head) can present itself in different forms. From chronic (long onset) commonly known as Big Head to acute (short onset) known as NSH. This can have devastating effects in all ages of horses as basic minerals and nutrients are NOT available in the pastures consumed or readily grazed.
Calcium and phosphorus are essential components for horses especially broodmares, growing and working horses. If these minerals are not absorbed through the systems then this may result in all manner of complications. Calcium and phosphorus must correlate to form a balanced ratio to play a major part in absorption.
Calcium is required for muscle function, bone development, growth, metabolism and blood clotting. A diet deficient in Calcium may result in rickets and growth problems or low quality and quantity of milk in lactating mares. Deficiencies in phosphorus can result in poor appetite, causing growth and health problems as well as in some cases infertility. Phosphorus is required for metabolism and bone development.
Formula Green is water-soluble and is a slow release mineral supplement that has major benefits in country that has calcium compromised pastures like buffel and kikuyu. It does NOT contain SUGARS, SALTS OR SYNTHETICS.
Dose rate is 1.4-1.5 kg per horse mixed well in water every 7 days.
